Well 2016 has been a rollercoaster ride of wonderful and woeful.
Thankfully mostly wonderful…
I’ve been so inspired and educated by many people and situations. My strengths have been exposed to me as have my weaknesses. My journey into “self awareness” which began some years ago is beginning to show results… a scary consequence of digging deep. As with many aspects of my life,my work here has only begun. It can be terrifying to realise just how vulnerable we all can be. So?..
Looking forward, I’m determined to keep things simple, meaningful and as creative as is achievable by me.
On a professional level 2016 has given me more questions than answers. This however is a good thing. It means my sense of curiosity and wonder is on the up. These are the things I need most to continue to be an entertainer and songwriter. The people I have around me now, both in Ireland and in Germany are an amazing bunch and a culmination of years of hello’s and goodbyes. Life’s natural process of selection and mix ‘n’ match.
The common thread here is my friend John Sheehan (seen below , top left). A music lover, man of conviction and of honest character. In other words…a true friend. To have John around me is a blessing both in my daily and professional lives. His invaluable sense of perspective keep me as grounded and as focused as is possible. That’s no easy feat ha.
The photo below shows an amazing team of people. With there help and belief my solo shows in Germany have been all the more special.
As I continue playing around my home city and county I realise how lucky I am to get to work with such a variety of wonderful musicians. This influenced my decision to do a mostly original show recently with a great band of performers, including my sister Sally O,Reagan.
It has also given me a new sense of hunger to achieve some personal and professional goals in the coming year. Part of this will be some co-writing with my life long friend and colleague Paul Seymour and I want to get my back catalog of recordings on line for you all to hear and hopefully enjoy.
A trip to Germany with Galleon in April!!!!
Of course next year’s highlight will the fact that Sandra and I will be married 25 years!!! Some woman!!!!
That’s about it for now. I hope the coming year brings all that you can handle. Happy New Year.
