Almost every Thursday night I take a trip in to Cork City centre and visit a bar called The Corner House . First of all this bar is beautiful. Its walls are warm and welcoming as is its staff and customers.
The Lee Delta Blues Club hold court every week and for me it’s a perfect balance of amazing music and great Murphys Stout.
The Dizzies aka The Dizzy Blues Band provide the music. A group of brilliant musicians led by Mr Pat Horgan, who know the music and the business inside out. No room for egos here, just professionalism, friendship and great blues.
Once a month the club hosts a guest band and to my surprise Pat approached me a few months ago to put a band together to play on one of these Thursdays. “I’d absolutely love to Pat but I don’t really play blues”. Anyway, it eventually happened. With my sister Sally O’Regan (vocals), Paul Seymour (keys & vocals), Johnny Campbell (bass) and Brian Calnan (drums) I put a set together of mostly MY OWN SONGS!!

So family, friends and fellow musicians gathered to hear the songs…my songs! My whole career to date has been about covering other people’s songs and hoping for the possibility of throwing a few of my own in to the mix, so I’m sure you’ll understand when I say this night was really special for me. I’m hoping to do a few more of these “original” gigs in the future. The band lineup certainly won’t be changing as these people only added to the pleasure I got from the whole experience.
So thanks to Pat Horgan, The Lee Delta Blues Club and The Corner House for making me take that leap of faith .
Till next time…
